On Friday 18 July, 14 members of Poppleston Allen joined more than 500 other runners and walkers for the Imagine 5.30 Run Nottingham at dawn.

For two months, the team trained, fundraised and spread the word among colleagues, family and friends. Their dedication paid off, raising an incredible £1,264 to help Maggie’s Nottingham continue providing life changing support for people affected by cancer.

Maggie’s offers the best possible support free to anyone with cancer and their families who walk through their doors. Their centres aim to help people take back control when cancer turns life upside down, with professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries.

The firm’s biggest campaigners, practice manager and partner (non-solicitor), Tracey Robottom and secretary, Sue Deacon, were proud to present the cheque to Alexa Wigfield in Maggie’s Nottingham headquarters.

Tracey shared, “Even as a non-runner, it was a no-brainer wanting to support this cause.  I undertook the NHS “Couch to 5k” training to prepare for the run. It was great fun, even with the early morning start and very well organised. Sue and I attended Maggie’s Nottingham centre to present the cheque and it was a very humbling experience. The centre is outstanding, as is the work they do. Here’s to our next venture to raise funds for our nominated charity!”

Sue added: “As a non-runner who had never run outside before it was a daunting experience but the Couch to 5K programme helped prepare me and supporting Maggie’s was a great incentive to get training.

“Meeting the team at Maggie’s was great – their dedication and the work they do is inspiring. The sheer number of people they help on a daily basis shows how much they and their centre are needed. Can’t wait for the next event to help support their incredible and much needed work”.

The 5.30 Run is a movement that promotes wellness through early morning activity in a non-competitive and community-driven 5k walk or run at dawn. The Nottingham route ended with a congratulatory high five from Paralympic athlete Richard Whitehead MBE.
