Further to our previous articles on 01/07/2014 and on 15/05/2014, The Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act 2014 Commencement Order 2014 has been made confirming that the The Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act will come into force on 1 October 2014.
The Act requires that all operators providing remote gambling facilities who wish to transact with customers in Britain obtain an operating licence.
As discussed in our previous commentary, transitional arrangements have been put in place, which enable operators already providing such gambling facilities to continue to do so and time is of the essence.
The deadline for operators to apply for continuation licences is midnight on the 16th September.
On the 31st March 2015 the Commission will introduce the requirement that all operators need to obtain their gambling software from holders of a Gambling Commission software licences and therefore software suppliers will need to be licenced by the revised deadline. Previously, the Commission required licenses to be in place by January 2015.
