“In August this year the Public Health (Minimum Price for Alcohol) (Wales) Act 2018 received Royal Assent, allowing Welsh Ministers to establish a minimum unit price (MUP) for alcohol supplied in Wales.
Today the Welsh Government has launched a 12 week consultation on its preferred MUP of 50p and it looks to gather views from individuals, businesses, public bodies and other stakeholders. The consultation period will end on 21st December 2018.
The consultation paper details the evidence for the change and looks at the analysis of the potential impact which was undertaken by the Sheffield Alcohol Research Group at the University of Sheffield.
According to the Welsh Government website it is expected that minimum unit pricing for Wales will come into force in summer 2019.”
