Fury v Joshua: Late night licensing considerations for licensed premises

The highly anticipated Fury v Joshua boxing match is expected to take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Friday 11 December 2026

In terms of timings, it has been reported that the boxing programme, including the undercard bouts, is expected to begin at around 8pm or 9pm on Friday 11 December, with the main event expected to take place in the early hours of Saturday 12 December.

The ring walks are reportedly expected at around 1am on Saturday, following a short live music performance before the main fight.

With the fight expected to attract significant interest, licensed premises planning to screen the event or host related celebrations should review their existing premises licence or club premises certificate to establish whether their authorisations cover their proposed activities and hours.

You may need a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) if your existing authorisation does not cover the sale of alcohol, late-night refreshment or regulated entertainment during your proposed hours. You should also check whether any conditions on your existing licence need to be disapplied to accommodate your plans.

If you need a TEN to cover licensable activities from the evening of Friday 11 December into the early hours of Saturday 12 December, the deadline for submitting a standard TEN is 26 November 2026. A late TEN can be submitted up to 3 December 2026.

We recommend submitting a standard TEN wherever possible and doing so well in advance of the deadline. If an objection is received from the police or environmental health authority in response to a late TEN, the event cannot proceed under that TEN. A standard TEN, by contrast, allows for a hearing to determine the application where an objection is received.

If the fight is cancelled or the timings change significantly, you can withdraw your TEN, provided you give the licensing authority at least 24 hours’ notice before the event is due to start.

If you are planning to screen the fight or host a related event and need advice on your licensing requirements or assistance with a TEN application, please contact us.

For further information on TENs, see our Guide to Temporary Event Notices (TENs).
