Celebrating National Pizza DayCelebrating National Pizza Day

My staff and my customers are very much looking forward to National Pizza Day on the 9th February. To celebrate, I would like to set up a pop up pizza oven next to the bar to serve pizzas throughout the day and night. Can I do this? I do have a kitchen and normally serve food and snacks.

You will need to think about a couple of matters before doing this, including:

  • As you habitually provide food already, you should be registered as a food business with your local council. There are of course, health and safety and food hygiene implications of providing food to members of the public which, as an existing food provider, you will be fully up to speed with.
  • Check your Premises Licence to ensure that you are allowed to serve hot food after 11pm. If you are serving pizzas after 11pm you will need permission for late night refreshment on your licence. If you do not have this permission but would like to do this, then a Temporary Event Notice would be required. You should also check your conditions carefully, to ensure there are no restrictions.
  • Licensing plans should accurately reflect the layout of the premises. Depending on the how the pizza oven and any related furniture is to be installed, and the length of time that they will be there, and in particular the impact on any escape routes, you may find that you need to amend your licensing plans. However, given the temporary nature of what you are doing, it is unlikely an application would be required.
  • You will no doubt have customers flying through the doors to celebrate National Pizza Day with you, and you should make sure you have thought about customer management on the day to ensure a smooth operation
