PASS Opens New Consultation on Standards for Digital Proof of Age

PASS are seeking views on how digital proof of age should be presented and verified

“PASS is the scheme which audits and accredits proof of age schemes to provide assurances to retailers regarding the types of proof of age cards which can be accepted.

Digital proof of age is becoming more prevalent and so it is important that businesses know what they should be looking for and how to verify that the information is valid and relates to the person who is trying to use it.

In light of this, PASS has launched a consultation asking for views on how digital proof of age should be presented and verified by those that are selling age restricted products.

The consultation is open to anyone who has a view on the topic and it is particularly aimed at proof of age providers, retailers, publicans, entertainment venues, users of digital proof of age, technology and data experts, public sector and enforcement bodies, and groups working with young people.

The proposal would see a system where the retailer would scan a QR code on the customer’s phone and this would reveal their photograph and proof of age.

More information and a link to the full consultation document can be found here and the consultation will run until Thursday 30th April 2020.”
