New Regulations made governing online slots stake limits take effect from early April 2025

Remote Casino Operators subject to new Licence Condition

On the 25th February 2025, The Gambling Act 2005 (Operating Licence Conditions) (Amendment) Regulations 2025 were made.

The Regulations will impose new stake limits to all game cycles for online slots and impose a new Operating Licence condition attached to remote casino operating licences.

The Minister for Gambling, Baroness Twycross confirmed in her speech to the Betting and Gaming Council Annual General Meeting on the 27th February that the following phased changes will be implemented:

  1. On the 9th April 2025, for an online slots game, the total amount which any individual may stake in relation to any game cycle may not exceed £5; and
  2. On the 21st May 2025 for an online slots game, the total amount which an individual less than 25 years of age (24 and under) may stake in relation to any game cycle may not exceed £2.
