Gambling Commission announce new Gaming Machine Rules

The Commission has confirmed it will introduce a new licence condition

The Gambling Commission has announced new rules aimed at ensuring non‑compliant gaming machines are removed from premises quickly and effectively.

Following its January 2025 consultation on changes to the Gaming Machine Technical Standards, testing strategy and Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice, the Commission has confirmed it will introduce a new licence condition requiring operators to remove non‑compliant machines once notified in writing by the Commission.

The new licence condition (18.1.1) strengthens the Commission’s powers to address non‑compliance and reflects existing obligations under the Gambling Act 2005. It will apply to all non‑remote operating licence holders who make gaming machines available for use.

The new requirement will come into force on 29 July 2026. From that date, operators must remove any gaming machine identified as non‑compliant immediately upon receiving written notification from the Commission.

Operators are already expected to take reasonable steps to ensure all gaming machines are compliant and lawfully made available for use.
