Can an overseas firm apply for a licence?

Can a foreign company make an application for a premises licence?

Q: I am in the process of acquiring a town centre pub with a group of foreign investors. The premises licence has lapsed and they would like me to apply for a new premises licence in the name of their company which is registered overseas. Is there anything preventing a foreign company from making the application or does it have to be a UK registered company?

A: There is no prohibition on a non UK-based company applying for a new premises licence. On the application form you will need to indicate whether it is a limited company and in that event, you will need to state the name, address, registered number, description of the company and a telephone number (if any). There are also detailed requirements relating to the registration of particulars of an overseas company with Companies House and I suggest that you take separate legal advice on this point.
