Don’t get caught offside. Get your Super Bowl TEN in before the clock runs out

The Super Bowl (LX) is due to be held on Sunday 8th February in the San Francisco Bay Area

With the Super Bowl LX landing on Sunday 8th February, licensed premises across England and Wales are already gearing up for one of the biggest late-night trading opportunities of the year.

With American football now being big business in the UK, operators looking to make the most of the occasion need to consider if any Temporary Event Notices (TEN) are needed to cover their licensable activities. The game kicks off at 11:30 pm GMT on the Sunday night with the broadcast typically running through to 3:30 am on Monday morning; well beyond standard licensing hours for many venues.

If you are planning to hold an event to mark one of the year’s biggest American sporting occasions, you should consider whether you need a TEN. The deadline for a standard TEN is 23rd January 2026 but a late TEN can be submitted up until 30th January 2026. You will need a TEN if your licence does not cover you for alcohol sales or late night refreshment during these longer hours or if you need to keep customers on your premises after authorised hours.

You may also need to cover regulated entertainment if you plan on having any form of entertainment on to mark the occasion. You might have conditions on your licence which need to be disapplied in order to hold such an event.

A full list of popular events and celebrations, along with their TENs deadlines is available here.

If you are unsure if you need a TEN, or you would like help submitting one, get in touch with our licensing solicitors on 0115 953 8500.
