Camden Council to update Late Night Levy

Approved amendments mean that the Levy will apply to premises which are licensed for the provision of late night refreshments.

Following a consultation and review of its existing Late Night Levy, Camden Council has decided to retain the Levy with “significant reform, including enhanced transparency and reporting, strengthened stakeholder oversight arrangements, and extension of the levy contribution to relevant late-night refreshment premises”.

The Late-Night Levy was initially adopted by Camden Council in April 2016 and currently applies to licensed premises which sell alcohol between midnight and 6am. The fee payable ranges from £299 to £4,440 depending on the rateable value of the premises.

A statutory consultation on the proposed amendments took place between 1 December 2025 and 11 January 2026. The Licensing Committee considered the feedback received following the consultation on 11 February 2026 and it was resolved that it would be recommended to the Council that the Late Night Levy be retained, however with significant reform, including extending the levy contribution to include premises which are licensed for the provision of late night refreshments.

The above recommendation was approved by the Council on 2 March 2026. We do not yet know when the amendments will be implemented, however we have been advised that a formal letter will be sent to all licensed premises ahead of implementation. This letter will inform licence holders of the upcoming changes, relevant guidance and any actions which may need to be taken to remain compliant.
