Obtaining premises licences for new online grocery retailer

Giving licensing legal advice to help a new delivery brand take advantage of this growing retail sector

This particular client, one of a number of new brands taking advantage of the growing delivery market, wanted to deliver groceries including alcohol within 15-minutes of ordering.

To achieve this hyper speed delivery, the client needed to open fulfilment centres across London, each serviced by a fleet of electric moped and bicycle couriers, ready to accept orders via an app.

To do this, each fulfilment centre required its own premises licence, allowing for the sale of alcohol by retail.

By 2019, managing partner Lisa Sharkey had successfully obtained premises licences for 17 sites, and had a further 11 premises licence applications applications pending.

There are plans to roll-out this concept across the regions once enough market share has been gained in London.
