Andrew Grimsey - Solicitor

Andy (as he is more widely known) has practised both as a barrister and solicitor in the Midlands, and was a recognised specialist in personal injury claims. He joined Poppleston Allen in 2004 to head up our additional team of 20 legal graduates and support staff for the licensing reform process in 2005.

Since developing a 'taste' for liquor licensing, he has written external training papers and courses on licensing and attended many hearings under the new Act, with particular interest in proprietary clubs and late night venues.

Andy appeared in one of the first Appeals held under the new Licensing Act. He has since acted at many committee hearings and in the magistrates' court, dealing with applications, and complaints brought by local residents, the police, environmental health and other authorities.

Amongst Andy's more unorthodox cases he has licensed castles, narrow boats, and even provided advice regarding a scooter-drawn curry pot! He has successfully appeared in review hearings for nightclubs and pubs around the country. Andy has also acted for applicants in contested personal licence applications, betting and gaming applications and prosecutions under the Licensing Act 2003.
