Q: I run an off-licence and am aware that the Welsh Government has proposed to introduce a minimum unit price of 50p. When are any proposed changes likely to affect my business?
A: The Welsh government is currently consulting on its draft Public Health (Minimum Price for Alcohol) (Wales) Bill, which runs until the 11 December 2015. Following the consultation process any proposed changes in legislation could take some time to come into force, not least possibly to await the outcome of a challenge to similar proposals in Scotland by the Scotch Whisky Association. This challenge has gone to the European Court of Justice and a preliminary ruling should be issued later this year.
