The DCMS has today published its proposal to increase the maximum stake and prize limits in its response to the consultation on the review of gaming machine stakes and prizes which was first announced in January 2013.
The Government has proposed to increase limits for prize gaming and category B1, B3A, B4, C and some D machines. Interestingly, the Government has not proposed an increase to the stake and prize for Category D amusement machines, other than for pusher and penny falls, with all other categories, including cranes, remaining unchanged.
We have provided a copy of the table of the proposed maximum Stake and Prizes limits below:
|Category||Current max stake||Current max prize||New max stake||New max prize|
|B1||£2||£4,000||£5||£10,000 (with the option of a maximum £20,000 linked progressive jackpot on the premises basis only)|
|D non-money prize (other than crane grab)||30p||£8||30p||£8|
|D non-money prize (crane grab)||£1||£50||£1||£50|
|D money prize||10p||£5||10p||£5|
|D combined money & non- money prize (coin pusher/penny falls)||10p||£15 (of which no more than £8 may be a money prize)||20p||£20 (of which no more than £10 may be a money prize)|
|D combined money & non- money prize (other than coin pusher or penny falls)||10p||£8 (of which no more than £5 may be a money prize)||10p||£8 (of which no more than £5 may be a money prize)|

The Government intends to lay a draft regulation in Parliament this autumn 2013 in order that the amended stake and prize limits are implemented by early 2014, subject to Parliamentary approval.
