Graeme Cushion - Partner
Graeme joined us as a solicitor in January 2001 and was made a partner and Head of Regulatory Crime in April 2005. After qualifying in 1996, he developed his advocacy skills as a specialist in criminal law.His experience as a magistrates' court advocate led to a move to practising licensing law. With his background in criminal law, Graeme also specialises in criminal and regulatory crime ancillary to licensing. This involves crimes related to serving alcohol (underage sales and drunkenness), Health and Safety, Food Safety and Disability Discrimination.
Graeme is a speaker and advisor to the NUS, he is involved with NOCTIS and works with Jeremy Allen for the DCMS in the ongoing review of the workings of the Licensing Act 2003.
He also writes a regular column for the NUS publication ‘Trading News’ as well as appearing in regular trade press articles.
In the first half of 2007 Graeme and his colleagues toured the country speaking at BII ‘Smoking Ban’ roadshows to advise members and licensees of the legal implications of the smoking ban. (Graeme counts regularly giving up smoking as one of his hobbies!)
He wrote and appeared in a training DVD called ‘Teenage Kicks, the Poppleston Allen Guide to the Prevention for Underage Sales’ produced in May 2007 and has co-written the definitive pocket guide to the new licensing act, called The 2003 Licensed Trade Guide with Jeremy Allen and Susanna Poppleston.
Graeme has recently co-written a pocket guide to the myriad of subjects surrounding regulatory compliance with ex-EHO, Pat Perry from Perry Scott Nash which goes by the catchy title of 'The Regulatory Trade Guide'. It does what is says on the tin and encapsulates all you need to know in 106 pages of bedtime reading! (Please see the 'Publications' section of the site.)
