Institute of Licensing Training Course

Every once in a while we send out an eNews which gives details of training that we provide

We don’t do this very often! Twice a year or so we send out an eNews giving details of the training we provide. This latest batch is provided in conjunction with the Institute of Licensing and bookings can be made through events@instituteoflicensing.org (01726 754 56).

Two courses are planned for this year. The first is to be held on the 22nd – 24th February 2009 at Barceló, Basingstoke Country Hotel, Scures Hill, Nately, Nr Hook, Hampshire. The second will be held on the 19th – 21st April at Barceló Buxton Palace Hotel, Palace Road, Buxton, Derbyshire, SK17 6AG. Full details together with information on booking the whole course or individual days can be had from the Institute of Licensing.

The first day will be presented by Graeme Cushion which will be a Licensing Act overview. It will cover applications for the grant or variation of a licence and deal with the roles of the Licensing Authority, Councillors, Licensing Officers, Police and Local Authority Responsible Authorities. It will also cover the responsibilities of the Personal Licence Holder and the Designated Premises Supervisor, specifying who is accountable and for what. It will deal with inspection and enforcement powers together with closure powers and procedures.

The second day will be presented by James Anderson which will deal with how to introduce and maintain cumulative impact policies for both on and off licensed premises. He will also deal with minor variations, together with the procedure for removing the DPS, the role of Local Authorities, the Police and other responsible authorities. He will also deal with the hearing and review procedures, together with the expedited summary review procedures and the evidential requirements for reviews, hearings and appeals.

Nick Arron will deal with the third day, which will include a Gambling Act overview covering policies, inspection and enforcement powers. He will also deal with stated cases and legislation updates which will include the Policing & Crime Act proposals for sex establishments.

There will be an open session for delegates to ask any questions they have in relation to licensing. To prove that you have been in attendance the course will be concluded with a licensing exam.

The cost of attendance varies depending upon whether you attend on a residential basis and are a member of the Institute. You can join for £70 and obtain the discounted price.
