High Court Judge finds arguable case that a meal is not necessary to serve alcohol under old Tier rules

Permission granted to Night-Time Economy Adviser for Greater Manchester and two other residents for a legal challenge

Sacha Lord, the Night-Time Economy Adviser for Greater Manchester has tweeted that permission has been granted by the High Court for a legal challenge over the old Tier 2 restriction on serving alcohol unless it is with a table meal, and further that closing pubs that don’t serve food discriminates against sectors of society.

This initial hearing was to satisfy the court that there is an arguable case in law that a ground for seeking judicial review exists which merits full investigation. Now that has been done, the case will be heard over two days on a date to be fixed.

Further details to follow in due course.
