Scottish government introduces fee for personal licence renewals

The Licensing (Fees) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2018 has been laid before Scottish Parliament and will introduce the fee from October 2018

“Following the recent consultation on a proposed fee for applying to renew a personal licence, the Scottish government has decided to introduce a fee at £50.

The Licensing (Fees) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2018 has been laid before Scottish Parliament and will come into force on 1st October 2018. The £50 fee will be payable in respect of applications received by local Licensing Boards after 17:00 hours on 1st October 2018.

The news comes as Scottish Authorities are expecting an influx of renewal applications, with a large number of personal licences due to expire in September 2019.

A recent Communications Document issued by the Scottish government clarifies that personal licence holders whose licences were issued on or before 1st September 2009 can begin applying to renew their licences from 31st August 2018. Applicants should note that renewal applications made prior to 17:00 hours on 1st October 2018 will not be subject to the £50 fee.

Personal licence holders should also be reminded that in addition to renewing their licence every 10 years, they are required to undergo refresher training every 5 years.”
