News: Service disruption in Wales due to two day strike 16 & 17 July 2008

There is likely to be widespread disruption today and tomorrow (16 & 17 July) due to Councils joining strike action.

Twenty two local councils in Wales will strike on Wednesday and Thursday causing disruption to services, and a significant number of Councils in England are also affected.

If applications have to be made for changes to Designated Premises Supervisors these should be made in the usual way and will be processed at the end of the period of disruption.

Temporary Event Notices are unlikely to be processed but should be made to the Council in the usual way. Technically even though the council will fail to acknowledge receipt of the TEN within the 24 hour period (or the following day as both days are not working days) the police period for making representations commences upon receipt by the Police Authority. The Licensing Act is silent as to what happens if the council do not acknowledge receipt of the TEN within the 24 hour period but it must be assumed that the Temporary Event Notice application would be valid otherwise operators would be faced with an absurd situation of not being able to use the TEN due to the situation.
