Nick Walton - Solicitor
Nick joined Poppleston Allen in 2004 as a paralegal having previously had a career in marketing with several large American Corporations. He qualified as a Solicitor in April 2008 following a secondment to Richard Hutchinson & Co specialising in employment law.He has involvement in issuing applications and representing clients for a wide variety of licensed premises. His involvement with private members clubs and their need to have compliant club rules enables him to provide a “one stop shop” to cater not only for individual clubs. He also assists National organisations in the implementation of changes to their constitutions to ensure they remain compliant with current licensing legislation.
Nick provides regular advice specifically catering to private members clubs through the “Legal Eagle” section of the Club Mirror and is working with the editorial team at the Club Mirror to engage private members clubs to lobby their MP’s to have them exempted from some of the currently provisions of legislation making its way through Parliament.
Nick is a member of Council for the East Midlands section of BII and provides assistance with training on licensing for Licensing Authorities and Police throughout the country.
He remains keenly interested in specialised applications for large shopping complexes, cinemas, racecourses and various types of music festivals. Never very far away from advocacy, he continues to represent clients before both Licensing Committees and in the Magistrates Court. He continues to hold the in house record for the longest hearing before a Licensing Committee which lasted in excess of 8 hours (he was successful)!
