Nick Walton - Solicitor

Nick came into the law, having had a previous career in marketing in open heart surgery.

Nick joined Poppleston Allen in 2004 as a paralegal, qualifying as a solicitor in April 2008. He specialises in applications for Private Members’ Clubs, Cinemas, Race Courses and larger complex open areas and continues to have a keen interest in these areas of licensing.

Following a secondment with Richard Hutchinson & Co, specialising in Employment Law, Nick now works with several major clients of Poppleston Allen. He is also responsible for the licensing of a new type of ‘deluxe’ cinema for a Client who is planning to open premises in several major cities across England.

As the new Scottish Licensing Act applications start to be processed by the Licensing Boards he is also involved in instructing Scottish Solicitors to make applications for new Premises Licences on behalf of some of his clients.

In undertaking his work, Nick probably holds an in-house record for attending a licensing committee hearing that lasted for over 8 hours (he was successful!) He has a keen interest in advocacy and will continue to represent Poppleston Allen Clients in both Licensing Committee hearings and also the Magistrates Court.

Nick also researches specific areas of law which have arisen as a result of the bolt on legislation which has become integral to the Licensing Act.
