Jeremy Allen - Senior Partner
Sadly Jeremy Allen died suddently on 21 June 2011. He was a true friend to all the staff and partners at Poppleston Allen, an inspirational man both in his personal and professional life.To leave a tribute to Jeremy or to see a full tribute from the staff and Partners at Poppleston Allen click here
Jeremy founded the firm with Susanna Poppleston in 1994. He was a recognised industry commentator and was the only star-rated licensing solicitor in the country, as awarded by his peers in the 2011 Chambers & Partners Directory. The directory went on to say that Jeremy was "universally recognised as a doyen of licensing".
During the introduction of the Licensing Bill he was a member of the Secretary of State's Advisory Committee and continued to assist with further amendments to licensing law upon introduction of the new licensing regime. Jeremy was Chairman of the Institute of Licensing. He also advised a number of trade associations including the BII, BBPA, NOCTIS and WSTA on all aspects of licensing law, and was a frequent speaker at training conferences for lawyers and non-lawyers alike. He was also made an Honorary Companion of the BII.
He wrote regularly for the trade press and was the legal correspondent of ‘Croner’ publications and 'BIIBusiness' magazine. He co-wrote the definitive pocket guide to the new licensing act, called The 2010 Licensed Trade Guide with Graeme Cushion and Nick Arron.
Jeremy also co-wrote a book with Susanna and Professor Colin Manchester entitled 'Alcohol and Entertainment Licensing Law', published by Cavendish Publishing, April 2005 which has been updated in a second edition.
The staff at Poppleston Allen successfully walked up Kinder Scout on Thursday 22nd December 2011, in memory of Jeremy Allen.
The date was chosen as it was nearly 6 months to the day after his death and the challenge was to get Maggie Allen, the staff and supporting family members up and down Kinder Scout in one piece on the shortest day of the year.
We are pleased to say the weather was in our favour, the cold, blustery winds and snow topped peak didn’t deter the enthusiasm on the day. A toast was made at the top of Kinder Scout in memory of Jeremy – a truly inspirational man.
We are very pleased to report we raised just over £2,000 for the British Heart Foundation too. We would like to thank everyone who took part and also everyone who sponsored us.
Thank you
