Yesterday the Scottish Parliament published the Alcohol (Minimum Pricing) (Scotland) Bill which, when enacted, will mean that the Mandatory Conditions attached to Occasional Licences and Premises Licences will be amended to include an additional condition that alcohol will not be sold at a price below its minimum price.
The minimum price will be calculated using a minimum pricing per unit, multiplied by the strength and the volume of the alcohol. Scottish Ministers have yet to specify the minimum price per unit. Previously the Scottish Parliament were considering 45p per unit, but with the strength of the SNP's mandate following its election victory, we can expect the minimum price per unit to be higher than that.
