The Government has launched a consultation proposing to relax licensing hours for two nights of what will be a special four day Jubilee weekend in June 2012. Their proposal is to move the late May Bank Holiday back to Monday 4th June and for an additional Jubilee Bank Holiday on Tuesday 5th June.
Following the success of the Royal Wedding extension, the proposed order will extend licensed hours on the night of Friday 1st June to 1am and on the night of Saturday 2nd June also to 1am, but the consultation welcomes views as to which two nights of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th June are preferred.
The proposed extension would apply to the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises, the provision of regulated entertainment and late night refreshment in licensed premises in England and Wales.
The extension is to allow communities to come together to celebrate and commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the events of the last 60 years.
Further information can be obtained on the Home Office website and a questionnaire, in response to the consultation, is also available online at http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/publications/about-us/consultations/jubilee-licensing/
The consultation is open now and ends on 1st December 2011.
