The Welsh Government announced yesterday that they intend to put forward a Bill which will introduce a statutory food hygiene rating scheme.
This would be the first compulsory 'scores on the doors' scheme in the UK.
The Food Hygiene (Wales) Bill will make it mandatory for restaurants and takeaways within their borders to display their food hygiene rating. This is potentially very important for operators, as potential customers will be able to access this information in order to choose where to eat. The ratings will be available on line, and businesses may be fined up to £1,000 if they fail to display their rating in a prominent position.
The consultation on the Bill runs until the 7th March 2012.
