News: B&G eNews - Further Gambling Act Gaming Machine Consultation
The DCMS have recently published their proposals for Gaming Machine Regulations under the Gambling Act 2005. The consultation paper outlines the governments proposals on the regulations controlling the circumstances in which a gaming machine is made available for use including:-- The method by which stakes may be deposited or payments made for the use of the machine
- The nature of, or arrangements in respect of receiving or claiming prizes
- Rollover of stakes or prizes
- The proportion of amounts staked or paid that is returned by way of prizes
- The display of information
The government has attempted to draft the regulations in such a way as to ensure that existing machines should not require significant modification to be fully compliant under the new proposed regulations. I am sure operators will be the judge of whether this has been achieved.
These regulations apply to businesses offering gaming machines, including pubs and clubs with permits and arcades, bingo halls and other gambling venues with gambling premises licences.
The full regulations are available on the DCMS Website (www.culture.gov.uk) and the closing date for responses is Thursday 3 May 2007.
